This competition appealed to us from the very start because of its content, scale and location. The local authorities of Llanca, a small town just north of Barcelona in the Costa Brava, wanted to create a new Library which would become an Architectural Icon for the Town. This demand was met with enthusiasm by the DOS team, which began exploring the multitude of options available within the site.
The resulting proposal stemmed from the idea of creating a new Public space for the town, which was more modern in scale than anything already existing in Llanca. The library would serve as a backdrop to this Square and would essentially become the threshold between the Old and New Towns.
