This project, one of our many designs for spaces relating to the performance arts, was developed in conjunction with music production company Boss Media as DOS Architects’ own innovation. It is conceived as a hotel with an integrated auditorium, recording studios, and various other performance and production facilities for the music, film and theatre industries, aimed at prolific artists travelling with large parties. Inspired by the form of the Crescent moon, the building rises magisterially from the Dubai desert into an outer shell, dividing offices and central creative core. This coherence of function and design - of public and private space - announce the crescent as a space for the future: a space where artists, musicians, actors and designers can live, work and relax in a supremely conducive environment.
The building`s interior extends the sweeping, elegant gestures introduced by the external crescents in a series of interlacing walkways, spiralling vortex-like around the central core of functional chambers. The entire structure will act as a giant filter for light, with its spacious external vista illuminated by stunning shadow effects as the `crescent` form encounters its opposite force; the powerful Arabian sun. The rising curvaceous gestures of the lattice structure evoke equally crescent moons and rays of sunlight; this celebration of unity is both the formal and functional theme of the building.
