CREATE BETTER LIVES

DOS exists to create better lives. Our raison d’être is to be the leading designers of social change in the architectural industry, creating a legacy for better living around the world. We look at architecture from the perspective of the lives it supports and impacts, designing solutions that always consider the needs of the individual as well as those of the wider community.

Our philosophy extends to the people we work with and the culture of our own organisation. We believe it is always possible to combine form and function in a way that not only satisfies the needs of our clients, but that also leaves a responsible footprint on the world around us.

LORENZO GRIFANTINI

Lorenzo was born in Rome in 1973 into a family of successful, practising architects. Growing up in and around his parent’s studio, he went on to graduate from La Sapienza University in Rome with his work already being published before quickly moving to London and joining Zaha Hadid’s practise in 1999. Here he was involved in high-profile projects such as the Florence railway station and the Guangzhou Opera House in China. In 2001, Lorenzo moved across the Thames to join Foster & Partners, where he worked on projects including the masterplan for Milan’s Fiera and Florence’s TAV railway station.

TAVIS WRIGHT

Tavis grew up on the Spanish Balearic island of Formentera, often to be found exploring the sites of his architect father’s award-winning houses. He returned to his Scottish roots to study at the Edinburgh College of Art, punctuated with work at Philippe Stark’s atelier in Paris and Ronnette Riley’s New York studio. After graduating, Tavis joined Foster & Partners where he worked, among other projects, on the detailed design of a residential building in St Moritz and the Faustino Winery in La Rioja. He then joined Ron Arad Associates as Lead Architect on the Holon Design Museum in Israel.

Tavis and Lorenzo decided to collaborate on an entry for the international Dubai Marina Tower competition – open to architects worldwide. Their first prize-winning success catapulted them to international recognition and thus DOS was born.

ARCHITECTURE

Our architecture is deeply rooted in our professionalism, vision and values. Ours is an architecture that works so effectively because of how it impacts those who live in and around it: responsible, effective, sustainable, beautiful.

We aim to surpass the needs, hopes and dreams of our clients as well as impacting positively on the built environment that affects everyone in the wider community.

The same values we apply to our work, we apply to the culture of our own organization and recognize in those other professionals we bring on board for our projects: we believe it is for this reason we proudly call many former clients much-respected friends.

The training of an architect is years of developing taste and style, flair and daring, reaching the limits of what is physically possible. Our years spent working with the headline-grabbing names of our industry instilled confidence in our own developing style and competence, creating reality from the limits of possibility. But it has been through running our own practice that we can bring our values to every project we now embark on: from an extension in a London Victorian terraced home to a 10-storey apartment complex in the Middle East, a master-plan for a new section of a city in West Africa or a rustic finca in the countryside of Mallorca.
