Following from our first project in the African continent we have now been appointed to do the interior design for a 220 room 5 Star hotel in Libreville, Gabon. This project, which was born from a previous collaboration with Issa/Diabate, the Project Architects for the Yemreha Spa in Ethiopia, marks the continuation of an exciting new trajectory for DOS Architects in Africa.

Our approach to the interior design of the hotel has been to make references to the local culture and borrow the exciting architectural language of the hotel’s exterior. The grand lobby becomes a sinuous extension of the hotel’s curving balconies, with tree-like columns which try to evoke Gabon’s rich fauna. The rooms are inspired by the traditional masks of Gabon: Contrasting textures and materials merge together in this modern interpretation of West African art.
