DOS is very excited that our proposal for this conservation area site - right in the heart of everything that is today’s London - has been given the green light by the stringent planning body and is about to commence. Our client has spent years trying to rebuild this corner of the iconic Art Square and we are delighted that our design will soon be built alongside the classic, Pugin-designed St Monica’s Church and Priory. Our aim was to design a simple, clean, confident structure which would sit comfortably alongside the group of listed buildings around it. We have replicated their main cladding material by using brick and have also used the main height lines and rhythms of the neighbouring facades. In keeping with our brief, the building is a high-quality addition to the Square both in terms of construction and content. It centres around a large, spacious art gallery on the ground floor and on the first to third floors a range of six contemporary 2 and 3-bedroom apartments. It is a building we are proud of; it is stylish without being shouty, emblematic without obscuring.
